bills were discussed during the L.O. Conference Call 08/28/17:
Motorcycle plate increase for rider’s education and awareness passed the house and senate and is waiting for the Governor’s
signature. This increased original endorsements by $2.00 and renewals by $.50/yr, or $2.00.
Autocycle (Slingshot) bill passed the Senate. Presented to Governor July 12We were asked to let this legislation pass as it
is. Abate informed the legislature that we will address this issue in the fall and will work on changing the definition on
the federal level thru the D.O.T. Congressman Tim Walberg
will address this issue for us later this year.
Bans hands on phones in cars. No activity on this bill yet.
Increases the handle bar height limit from 15” to 30” from the lowest part of the seat to the lowest point on
the handle grips. Abate Leadership is meeting with House Leadership to discuss moving this to a Republican Legislator.

Congress is back
from the August recess this week. Don’t expect much
policy work getting done due to the packed to-do list such as: Debt Ceiling, Funding the Government, Funding Hurricane Harvey
and Irma relief efforts.
There has been
some progress on a driverless car bill in the house. MRF
has been communicating with Federal Law makers to be sure testing is “robust” on these cars and guaranteeing motorcycle
New studies have
been release on Helmets and the MRF has issues a Freedom of Information Act request on these studies. Check out the following abstracts at:
